Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA)

Overview: We're hiring a compassionate Independent Domestic Violence Advocate to provide crucial support to survivors of domestic violence. Your role involves risk assessment, safety planning, and collaboration with various stakeholders for a coordinated response.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support and Advocacy:

    • Provide trauma-informed support and practical assistance to survivors.
    • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments and develop individualised support plans.
  2. Safety Planning:

    • Collaborate on safety plans addressing immediate and long-term needs.
    • Assess and mitigate risks to ensure the survivor's safety.
  3. Liaison and Collaboration:

    • Establish effective relationships with law enforcement, social services, and health care professionals.
    • Ensure a holistic response to domestic violence cases.
  4. Referrals and Documentation:

    • Provide survivors with information and referrals to relevant support services.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
  • Previous experience in domestic violence advocacy or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, risk assessment, and legislation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with local resources for survivors.
