Job description

We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, dynamic, highly motivated and outcome-focused person to work with our technical support team at the Royal College of Art at our facility at White City on a full time and permanent basis. 

You will be supporting students on our Graduate Diploma course navigate a broad range of art & design practices and your ability to both problem solve and adapt your current technical knowledge will be key.

The day job as a Graduate Diploma Technical Instructor:

  • Provide technical instruction, support, advice and demonstrations online and in a workshop or studio environment.
  • Playing a key role in providing support for our fashion/textiles and software training.
  • Supporting the growth of Technical resources in the area, including assisting in the  set up of new equipment and services.
  • Continual learning as part of a dynamic multi disciplinary team.
  • Assist students and staff in problem solving and finding technical solutions.
  • Maintain specialist equipment and safety and keep accurate records.
  • Support College Teaching, Learning, Research activity that may require Technical Resources  as appropriate for the role.

What you will need to have:

  • Good practical knowledge of a variety of technical processes. For example you may have skills in software typically used in an Art & Design studio environment such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere. Or a variety of practical making skills such as using a sewing machine, working with textiles, using a laser cutter, printmaking processes or photography skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem solving skills
  • Excellent user focus and a flexible approach
