Housing Officer

Job description

We are looking to recruit a Housing Officer to lead delivery of a high performing, customer focused service to customers in accordance with standards.

You will also play a crucial role in providing guidance, support and assistance to tenants throughout their tenancy.

Applicants must have excellent administration and communication skills, time management skills, ability to work in a challenging and diverse environment, must be result oriented and customer focused.

Your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Tenant Sustainment: Provide comprehensive support to tenants, including explaining tenancy agreements, policies, and procedures, addressing queries, and offering guidance on tenancy-related matters.
  • To provide guidance to residents in relation to tenancy and lease agreement and relevant policy and procedures.
  • Income maximisation: Ensure all new and existing tenants are supported to put payment arrangements in place as part of new tenants on boarding activities and review of tenancies.
  • To use new technology that improves operational efficiency and the customer experience.
  • Tenancy Audits: Carry out regular tenancy audits and investigate instances if tenancy fraud. Complete annual programme of tenancy audits/yearly checks to check on resident welfare and to investigate all reports of tenancy fraud or sub-letting.
  • To ensure void loss is minimised, efficient turn-around times to meet the target and support colleagues to meet the re let turnaround as appropriate.
  • To deal with resident and other general enquiries about landlord responsibilities including anti-social behaviour, domestic violence, tenancy audits and regularly engaging with residents to help improve resident satisfaction.
  • To use creative and innovative measures to identify perpetrators, assist victims and prevent further anti-social behaviour complaints.
  • Work with the Income Team to support residents to maximise income and sustain their tenancies.
  • Conflict Resolution: Mediate and facilitate the resolution of tenancy-related disputes between tenants and landlords. Help parties reach mutually acceptable agreements, ensuring fair treatment and adherence to applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Relevant housing qualification or equivalent level of experience in core housing management activities
  • Previous experience in tenancy management, housing advice, or a similar role is beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of tenancy laws, regulations, and best practices, including fair housing principles and tenant rights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to navigate and use relevant tenancy management software and databases.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Cultural competency and an understanding of the unique needs and challenges of diverse populations.
