Morgan Hunt are working exclusively with the national charity Mind (South West London) who are recruiting for a newly created Finance Manager role on a permanent basis. This is a full time, hybrid position based in SW6 London, paying up to £45,000. This is an exciting role that reports directly into the CEO and will influence and support the SMT on financial and strategic decisions.

Purpose of the job of the Finance Manager:

This is a key role within a small and busy finance team. It is an opportunity to fill a brand-new role for the charity charity - a finance manager to work closely across the organisation with all directors. The postholder will be responsible for supporting the operational team in helping them understand finance, complete payroll on a monthly basis, support project reporting and coach the team around financial capability.

Working closely with the CEO and the Financial Consultant, the Finance Manager will provide Mind with sound financial management. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial management and payroll processing with a full understanding of all aspects of book-keeping. Proficiency with Sage and experience of working within the charity/third sector would be desirable.

Job description of the Finance Manager:

  • Maintain the Sage accounting system through the timely processing of transactions.
  • Main liaison with the Bank on anything that needs a point of contact/signatory to deal with it or if a problem needs to be solved.
  • Post bank transactions
  • Support the Operations team with active management of debtors and undertake monthly management and project reporting, coaching the team with regards financial capability as required (clearly highlighting deficit, surplus and breakeven) to help Directors own their budget and be able to make strategic decisions
  • Overseeing and managing the monthly payroll for 100 staff.
  • Acting as the main internal contact for financial queries posed by the SMT.
  • Oversee and ensure that management accounts are produced in a timely manner, and with appropriate commentary and present these accounts regularly to the SMT and Board, ensuring the necessary checks have been completed.
  • To review the coding of transactions
  • To perform the monthly bank reconciliations, raise queries and chase outstanding invoices,
  • Produce the monthly management accounts/cash flow for monthly finance meeting with Directors and other senior management team members.
  • Line management of the bookkeeper ensuring monthly 1:1s take place as well as annual appraisals.

    The ideal Finance Manager will have:
  • CCAB or equivalent part qualified (min) with relevant post qualification experience
  • Track record of bookkeeping
  • Experience of processing payments and expenses
  • Experience of working with the bank
  • Experience of working with commissioners and contract managers within the local authority and/or NHS
  • Understanding the charity sector
  • Ability to translate complex financial information to those who don't have a background in finance.
  • Proficiency with Sage
  • Interest in career progression
  • Experience of working in an agile working environment and be able demonstrate a commitment to improving processes.
  • Able to deliver services at both an operational and strategic level.
  • Strong business and commercial acumen
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Someone who is technically savvy with strong Excel skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
