Job description

We have a current opportunity for a Project Manager - HVAC - NHS Band 8a on a contract basis. The position will be based in Berkshire. Pay rate is £35-36 umbrella.

As a P3O Project Manager (HVAC) within the Estates Maintenance Projects Team, the post holder will support the Head of Projects (P3O Portfolio Manager) via the Senior Projects Manager (P3O Programme Manager) in managing and delivering construction related projects within the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT) Estate. Projects will typically be from the in year Capital Works Plan, project specific bids for funding, charity donation and specific minor capital projects.

They will have responsibility, at any one time, for the autonomous professional management and delivery of numerous projects of varying size and complexity. This will include advising and liaising with stakeholders, clinical management teams and otherwise, at all levels across the Trust. The post holder will be expected to be dealing on a day-to-day basis with appointed Quantity Surveyors / Cost Engineers, Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Building Fabric Consultants, Structural and Civil Engineers, Principal Contractors, Sub Contractors, and Specialist Contractors.

Job Summary

  1. To operate within a Portfolio, Programme and Project Management (P3M) office environment utilising PRINCE2 project methodology.

  1. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the overall management of a broad range of capital construction schemes, from feasibility through procurement to completion on site and relevant defects periods. Schemes will typically sit in one of a number of value ranges from small works at £10k, through to projects up to £1m. The post holder may also be expected to assist the Senior Project Manager with elements of other work such as HVAC and Building Fabric within the hospital approved plan.

  1. To assist the Head of Projects with the overall Estates Project Works programme including monitoring spend and procurement ensuring compliance with RBFT and department governance across multiple projects against key delivery targets set each financial year.

  1. To participate in the implementation of department procedures and systems such as P3O and Brand Manual development.

  1. Where appropriate to take responsibility for managing and monitoring CDM2015 and any/all other aspects of project Health and Safety.

  1. To provide key performance indicators which demonstrate the performance of the Trusts Estates and Facilities capital programme against national and local standards.

  1. To manage external resources on behalf of the capital technical team and provide professional, efficient, customer focussed and cost effective services.

9 To ensure the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional standards of construction practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes. Where necessary (i.e. desirable to the Job Description) be prepared to commit to industry specific higher/further education and associated professional development, as supported by the RBFT.

  1. Flexibility to assist/cover other Project Managers with their responsibilities when directed by the Head of Projects.

  1. To generate specifications/schedules and drawings (to current industry legislation, good practice (HTM / HTG / HBN) by way of design to tender, for lower value projects as applicable.
