Job description

Morgan Hunt are currently working with one of the UK's Healthcare Regulatory Bodies in their search for an interim Screening Case Officer to manage and progress a caseload of fitness to practice concerns through the screening process.

As a Case Officer, you will be responsible for planning, prioritising, and managing your caseload independently, while providing timely updates to stakeholders to ensure seamless progression of cases. Your primary focus will be on analysing complex case information while developing robust evidence gathering strategies, as well as collaborating with decision makers to assess case readiness and progression.

You will be the primary point of contact for registrants, referrers, witnesses, and other parties involved in the cases. You will be required to deliver exceptional customer service through clear, effective, and empathetic communication.

The successful applicant will have experience managing a high caseload (ideally in relation to Investigations and Professional Regulation), with the ability to gather, analyse and assess a range of evidence and information to inform case progression. You will have excellent analytical, communication (both verbal and written) and prioritisation skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service relating to sensitive issues.

Location: Hybrid (2 days per week in London)
Salary: £29,000 - £30,000 per annum
Job Type: Fixed Term Contract (until end of March 2025, potential extension)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently plan, prioritize, and manage your caseload to meet departmental objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Develop comprehensive plans to gather evidence by identifying relevant issues and required evidence.
  • Collaborate with screening decision makers to determine the readiness of cases for resolution and/or progression.
  • Provide timely updates and maintain ownership of cases, escalating issues as necessary to ensure timely resolution.
  • Manage and progress cases in accordance with fitness to practise strategy principles and screening guidance.
  • Conduct thorough enquiries as outlined in procedural guidelines, remaining alert to new issues or lines of enquiry.
  • Assess and manage risk information throughout the screening process, adapting approaches as needed.
  • Proactively advance cases within specified timeframes and departmental KPIs, providing clear rationale for case closure or further investigation.
  • Deliver person-centred customer service, tailoring communication to the needs of stakeholders.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for all case parties, ensuring clear, consistent, and relevant communication.
  • Provide accurate information regarding case progress and NMC processes, maintaining professionalism and empathy throughout interactions.
  • Risk Analysis and Documentation:
  • Proactively identify and analyse risks and complexities within cases, seeking appropriate advice and documentation.
  • Document all relevant information accurately and comprehensively within case files, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to guidance, procedures, and operational standards within the Professional Regulation directorate.
  • Attend and actively participate in Professional Regulation meetings as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support training updates to enhance departmental effectiveness.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations, policies, and principles of confidentiality.
  • Adhere to protocols for the appropriate use of communication facilities.
  • Promote diversity, equality, and risk management principles in all aspects of work.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Law, Social Sciences, Healthcare).
  • Previous experience in casework, regulatory compliance, or similar roles preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously while maintaining attention to detail.
