Morgan Hunt are currently recruiting for opportunity for a Financial Accountant on a permanent basis with a prestigious Regulatory Body. The role is a hybrid role based in central London within a busy but supportive team. The Financial Accountant is paying £47,745 - £52,839 and reports into the Financial Accountant and Treasury Manager.

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Accountant:

  • Management Responsibilities:

    • Lead and manage two Finance Officers, ensuring accurate posting and allocation of cash transactions and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Development Responsibilities:

    • Proactively develop and maintain financial processes, procedures, and internal controls.
    • Contribute to enhancing financial reporting.
    • Stay updated on UK accounting, VAT, and Corporation tax legislation, highlighting implications and ensuring compliance.
    • Provide training and review sessions for Finance Officers to enhance their technical knowledge and skills.
  • Specific Role Responsibilities:

    • Prepare monthly balance sheets and annual financial statements
    • Conduct monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and resolve any issues promptly.
    • Ensure accurate posting of cash transactions and reconcile intercompany accounts.
    • Manage cash flow information and review sales commission calculations.
    • Oversee debtors and creditors, fixed asset accounting, and VAT accounting.
    • Contribute to annual corporation tax computation and dividend payments.
    • Support period and year-end closure of the General Ledger.
    • Assist in the procurement and implementation of a new Finance system.
  • Strategic Duties:

    • Stay informed about changes in FRS102/UK GAAP and VAT legislation, discussing impacts with the Financial Accounting Manager.
    • Implement necessary changes and address risks associated with non-compliance.

Person Specification of the Financial Accountant:

  • Knowledge, Training, and Qualifications:

      • Recognised CCAB accounting qualification
      • Up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and regulations
      • Working knowledge of data protection and confidentiality requirements
      • Sound understanding of VAT

  • Experience:

      • Experience of producing Statutory Accounts using UKGAAP/IFRS in a commercial organisation
      • Experience of being responsible for an effective and efficient full year-end audit
      • Experience of preparing accurate and timely monthly balance sheet reconciliations
      • Experience of maintaining an accurate and current fixed asset register
      • Experience of working as a lead in finance-related projects
      • Experience of working in the publication industry
  • Skills:

    • Essential:
      • Ability to present complex financial information effectively to non-financial managers
      • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills to ensure team can achieve tight deadlines under pressure
      • Robust understanding of accounting
      • High level of expertise in Microsoft packages including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
