Job description

Morgan Hunt are currently working with a UK Regulatory Body in their search for a permanent Paralegal to provide high level, focused and efficient legal support to the Automatic Enrolment Legal team.

You will be involved in a broad range of legal work, including work relating to Civil Litigation, First Tier Tribunals, Criminal Prosecutions, Debt and Enforcement cases, as well as Commercial and Procurement work. This will involve managing a caseload, including preparing responses, providing advice, organising evidence and supporting at Tribunals as required.

You will also be responsible for providing general advice on automatic enrolment, conducting legal research and contributing to know-how across the organisation.

The successful post-holder will be an experienced Paralegal (ideally with experience in Civil Litigation and/or the Regulatory Sector). You will have experience in Public Law, knowledge of Court/Regulatory procedures, with the ability to manage a high-work load, draft and review legal documents and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.

You will be a strong team-player with a positive "can-do" attitude, and ideally knowledge of Pensions Law, Data Protection & Information Rights.

The successful post-holder will be expected to attend the Brighton Office 6 days per month.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage your own litigation cases before the First Tier Tribunal, including preparing responses, providing advice, organising evidence and appearing at Tribunals
  • Liaise with legal counsel and other external parties
  • Provide support to internal Lawyers, and conduct legal research
  • Provide support to Know How groups, and Subject Experts, including collating and disseminating legal updates
  • Attend meetings/ hearings to provide administrative support
  • Provide support to case teams through the efficient management of documents (using document management, or external, software) including indexing, document collation, document organisation and a limited amount of evidence analysis
  • Create and maintain an index of documents for disclosure and undertake disclosure exercises as required.

Person Specification

  • Relevant legal qualification (eg Law degree, CPE, LPC, ILEX or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of Court/Regulatory procedures and Public Law general principles
  • Client-focused approach
  • Previous paralegal experience ideally conducted within a civil litigation or regulation setting with a proven ability to coordinate numerous case files at one time
  • Experience in drafting and reviewing legal documents
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) to a variety of audiences including external parties, legal counsel and internal stakeholders up to Board level
  • Strong IT skills, including experience of standard IT software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document management systems
  • Knowledge of Data Protection & Information law general principles (desirable)
  • Project management experience (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and Criminal Procedure Rules (desirable)
