Senior Category Manager IT

£350 - £400 per day

Morgan Hunt is currently working with a housing firm, based in Liverpool, in their search for an Interim Senior Category Manager and SRM specialising in IT.

As a successful post holder, you will be implementing a category management approach where will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing category and sub-category strategies, Supplier Relationship Management, and sourcing plans across the Group. Your expertise in IT procurement will be crucial as you lead procurement projects, provide support for business-led procurement activities, and take ownership of sub-categories to deliver savings targets.

This position will offer internal opportunity, progression, and a wide range of experience where you will have a strong impact on the development of the organisation's category strategies.

This is a Part Time Hybrid working position that will require you to attend the office 2 days a week and 1 remote working day.

Job Title: Senior Category Manager and SRM - IT

Location: Hybrid (2 days in office, 1 remote working day)

Day Rate: £450

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instigate and evolve a comprehensive Category Strategy for IT, analysing purchasing and supply data to inform future planning.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency's, cost savings, and risks to category plans, reporting findings to key stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of the forward tender plan, contracts register, and strategic supplier relationship management.
  • Form strategic partnerships with key suppliers, oversee contract assurance programs, and ensure robust contract management processes.
  • Provide line management and development for Procurement Officer(s) while supporting training in procurement and contract management processes.
  • Act as a focal point for purchasing and supplier management disputes, ensuring effective and timely resolution.
  • Maintain industry knowledge, develop market intelligence, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Group Procurement processes.

Person Specification:

  • Procurement experience with a focus on delivering financial savings.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT procurement, including software, hardware, and IT-related services.
  • Experience in category management, procurement legislation, and delivering cost savings.
  • Proven ability in spend analysis, category management, and data analysis.
  • Understanding of the procurement life cycle, contract management, and commercial risk management.
  • Effective stakeholder and supplier management skills.
  • Customer-focused with excellent written, analytically, and verbal communication skills.


  • Experience/knowledge of Procurement within the Public sector.
  • Experience with e-procurement systems and professional qualifications (e.g., MCIPS, degree).
  • Previous experience in line management.
