
Higher Level Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting for the following position:
- Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
- Responsibility for teaching cover
- London Borough of Barking & Dagenham
- Immediate start
- £120.00 per day (PAYE salary)
Our client school is based in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham. They are an all-through school with over 1,000 students on roll. Due to occasional staff absences, they require a HLTA, with responsibility for cover, who can be available on a weekly rota, in order to step in and provide support at short notice on the secondary site.
What will you be doing in a typical day?
- Distributing work which has been set by the absent teacher
- Taking sole responsibility for managing groups of 25 students (aged 11-18)
- Using your initiative and thinking on your feet to support the students in their learning
- Using positive behaviour management strategies to encourage a purposeful learning environment
What skills and characteristics would serve you well in this role?
- Strong behaviour management skills
- An area of subject expertise is useful but not essential
- Previous experience in a cover supervisor or Higher Level Teaching Assistant role would be beneficial, though not essential
- This role would be ideal if you have experience in a related field such as: drama, sports coaching, youth work or presenting.
