Location: Dunstable
Contract Type: Permanent, Term Time Only
Hours: 37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year
Salary: £23,557 - £25,849 per annum (Pro Rata), dependent on experience and qualifications
Role Overview:
As a Libraries and Learning Resources Assistant, you will contribute to student success by providing first-line support in the use of library resources, developing study skills, maintaining a welcoming learning environment, and supporting teaching staff with relevant materials and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Learner Support: Provide front-line support to students and staff, encouraging the use of library resources and assisting in developing independent learning skills.
- Teaching & Skills Development: Deliver induction sessions and workshops covering research methods, digital literacy, study skills, and use of Microsoft Office, assistive technologies, and the College's Virtual Learning Environment.
- Resource & Environment Management: Ensure the library remains an orderly and supportive learning environment, manage displays, and uphold student behaviour standards.
- Library Operations: Operate the Library Management System, process loans and returns, manage borrower records and fines, and conduct financial transactions in line with college policies.
- Collaboration & Administration: Work closely with curriculum teams to align resources with academic needs and support administrative tasks and student volunteers.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualifications: GCSEs (Grade A-C or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Technical Skills: Strong IT competency, particularly with Windows applications and online research tools; willingness to learn new technologies.
- Experience: Background in customer-facing or learner support roles, ideally in an educational or library setting.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain information clearly to learners and staff.
- Behavioural Management: Confident in promoting positive learner behaviour and providing a supportive learning environment.
- Personal Attributes: Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexible and resilient under pressure.
