Job Title: Lecturer in Construction (Carpentry)
Location: Rainham, East London
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in carpentry and joinery within the construction curriculum. The role involves developing learners' practical and theoretical skills, supporting their progression, and preparing them for success in the workplace, apprenticeships, or further study.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons in carpentry and related construction subjects at various levels (e.g., Level 1-3, apprenticeships).
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials in line with awarding body and curriculum requirements.
- Provide effective teaching in both workshop and classroom environments.
- Assess learners' skills and knowledge through practical tasks, assignments, and examinations.
- Ensure all health and safety regulations and safeguarding policies are followed in teaching spaces.
- Support learners with individual learning needs, progress tracking, and pastoral care.
- Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress, and achievement.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of teaching resources.
- Engage with employers, industry partners, and awarding bodies to keep teaching current and industry-relevant.
- Participate in standardisation, moderation, and quality assurance activities.
- Attend team meetings, training, and professional development activities.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Recognised qualification in Carpentry & Joinery (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or willingness to work towards one).
- Experience working in the construction industry as a carpenter/joiner.
- Up-to-date knowledge of construction standards, materials, and methods.
- Good communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Enhanced DBS - Preferably on the update Service
