Job Title: Hate Crime Triage Worker

Salary: £15-20 per hour

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Contract: 3-month temporary role - possibility to extend

Location: London (hybrid working available; national remote applicants considered)

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Hate Crime Triage Worker to join our team. This role involves assessing the needs of people referred into the Pan-London hate crime service, ensuring any safeguarding or risk concerns are identified, and helping clients access the right support.

You'll offer initial conversations to understand each person's situation, complete triage assessments, and either provide one-off support/signposting or refer them into the most appropriate service. You'll also play an important part in building trust, ensuring clients feel heard, supported, and safe.

The service works in partnership with specialist organisations supporting victims of hate crimes motivated by racism, anti-LGBT+ prejudice, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, or anti-disability prejudice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide non-judgmental, trauma-informed support to victims of hate crime.
  • Carry out triage assessments and brief interventions.
  • Refer clients into appropriate advocacy or specialist services, or provide one-off advice and signposting.
  • Collect and record monitoring data on all enquiries.
  • Meet funder requirements for timely contact with clients.
  • Engage in shared learning and reflective practice through cross-partnership meetings and training.
  • Support the Advocacy & Support Manager in identifying trends in service data.

About You

We're looking for someone with strong listening and communication skills, able to sensitively engage with people in distress and build rapport quickly. You'll be confident in assessing needs while leaving clients feeling supported and respected.

This role requires the capacity to work across diverse communities and experiences, including race, faith, LGBT+, and disability hate crime. You will need to provide non-judgmental support at all times - even where clients' experiences or views differ from your own.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience providing trauma-informed advice and support.
  • Understanding of the unique needs of communities facing hate crime (faith, disability, LGBT+, racially minoritised).
  • Knowledge of safety and risk issues associated with violence and abuse.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice and working with diverse communities.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and written skills.
  • Ability to work with people in distress with calmness and compassion.
  • Proficiency in IT systems and willingness to learn CRM processes.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of hate crime and anti-hate crime work.
  • Awareness of relevant services, legal remedies, and interventions relating to violence and abuse.

Inclusion

We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. We particularly welcome applications from underrepresented groups, even if you don't meet all of the criteria.
