About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure AI Engineer to join a leading UK Government agency on a 6-month engagement. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered copilots, automation, and cognitive solutions using Microsoft Azure AI, Copilot Studio, and the Power Platform.
This role is central to the agency's AI transformation agenda-helping to drive innovation, improve efficiency, and deliver enhanced digital public services through responsible, secure, and scalable AI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy AI copilots and intelligent automation solutions using Azure AI Services, Copilot Studio, and Power Platform.
- Develop, test, and refine natural language and generative AI applications leveraging Azure OpenAI Service and GPT models.
- Collaborate with product owners, data engineers, and policy teams to identify and implement AI-driven process improvements.
- Ensure all solutions comply with UK Government security, accessibility, and ethical AI standards.
- Integrate AI solutions across Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, testing frameworks, and performance monitoring tools.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring, supporting internal capability development in AI and automation.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience designing and delivering AI or automation solutions using Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI, or Copilot Studio.
- Strong expertise in the Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft 365 integration.
- Proficiency in prompt engineering, conversational AI design, and API-based integration.
- Solid understanding of data governance, information security, and responsible AI frameworks within the public sector.
- Hands-on experience deploying and scaling AI solutions within Azure environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical teams.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and source control (Git, Azure DevOps).
Desirable Skills
- Experience working to Government Digital Service (GDS) design and delivery standards.
- Knowledge of Responsible AI and model evaluation techniques.
- Background in chatbot analytics, service design, or user-centred design.
