The Role:

The Lecturer in Music will plan, deliver, assess and review BTEC (or equivalent) programmes in Music at Levels 1, 2 and 3 (including the Diploma in the Music Industry, National Foundation Diploma, National Extended Diploma in Music). The post holder will inspire and motivate learners, develop their practical, creative and theoretical skills, and support their progression into higher education, employment or the music industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning for Music courses at Levels 1-3, ensuring alignment with awarding body specifications (
  • Design schemes of work, lesson plans, and resources that balance practical skills (performance, production, composition) with theoretical knowledge (music history, industry context, theory/aural skills).
  • Deliver lectures, workshops, studio sessions and ensemble rehearsals using industry-standard equipment (e.g., digital audio workstations, live sound/recording studios).
  • Assess student work (including coursework, practical performances/recordings, written assignments), provide feedback, monitor progress, and maintain accurate assessment records.
  • Support students' development of employability skills relevant to the music industry (e.g., project management, marketing/promotion, event production) as featured in programmes such as the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music.
  • Monitor and promote student attendance, engagement, retention and achievement; intervene where necessary and contribute to improvement strategies.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities: rehearsals, bands/ensembles, concerts, industry guest workshops, links with external music organisations.
  • Work collaboratively with technicians, industry partners, admission/enrolment teams, and other staff to enhance the student experience and departmental reputation.
  • Participate in department and college meetings, development and review of the music curriculum, employer/industry liaison, open days, parents' evenings and promotional events.
  • Comply with all college policies and regulatory requirements (safeguarding, health & safety, equality & diversity, data protection etc.)
  • Engage in continuing professional development, maintain current awareness of trends in music education, production/technology and industry practice.


Education, Skills and Requirements:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Music, Music Technology, Music Production or a related subject.
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., Cert Ed, PGCE, Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training) or working towards on
  • ·Experience of performing, composing or producing music, with demonstrable competence on one or more instruments or vocals.
  • Experience of teaching or training in a music/creative arts environment (FE, HE, vocational training) or substantial industry experience plus ability to teach.
  • Good knowledge of music theory and aural skills, music industry practice, live performance, recording/production.Familiarity with industry standard music production software/hardware (e.g., Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools) and live sound/recording equipment.
  • Must have a Enhanced DBS or willing to obtain a DBS
