Day Rate: £300-£350 per day plus travel and accommodation costs covered by employer

Our client on the Isle of Wight is seeking an experienced and confident SEND Tribunals Officer to strengthen its SEND team. This role will focus on managing cases progressing through the SEND Tribunal (SENDIST) process, ensuring the Local Authority meets its statutory duties and delivers well-prepared, legally sound responses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of SENDIST appeal casework on behalf of the Local Authority.
- Prepare well-evidenced case statements, written responses, and tribunal bundles in accordance with current SEND legislation.
- Work closely with legal colleagues, educational settings, and internal SEND teams to gather and present accurate information.
- Attend hearings, mediation sessions, and resolution meetings as required.
- Oversee compliance with EHCP timelines and tribunal directions.
- Provide specialist guidance on SEND law, tribunal expectations, and relevant case law to colleagues.
- Support improvements in practice through coaching and development for staff involved in EHCP and tribunal work.
Candidate Profile:
- Proven background in SEND Tribunal casework from a Local Authority, legal environment, or advocacy role.
- Strong understanding of the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes, and mediation routes.
- Exceptional written communication skills and the ability to present complex information clearly and accurately.
- Skilled in managing competing deadlines and working methodically under pressure.
- Confident IT skills, including case management systems and Microsoft Office.
Working Pattern:
Hybrid working is available, with on-island attendance expected. Flexibility may be considered for candidates with strong tribunal experience.
