Lead .NET Developer

12-Month FTC - £80,000 including bonus

Brighton / Hybrid (6 days per month on-site)

I am delighted to be supporting a leading UK governing body in the recruitment of a Lead .NET Developer (Principal) to join their Digital directorate on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This is a key senior role for an experienced technical leader who thrives in modern engineering environments and wants to shape the technical strategy behind major transformation initiatives.

About the Role

As Lead .NET Developer, you will:

  • Define and deliver the technical strategy across one or more development teams, ensuring technology choices and software architecture align with organisational strategy and UK Government Service Standards.
  • Lead on proof-of-concept work to demonstrate scalable, extensible and resilient solution patterns.
  • Mentor, coach and develop the technical capability of development teams, fostering best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to design and build accessible, cloud-hosted websites using modern tooling and established design patterns.
  • Oversee the end-to-end development of mission-critical applications, leveraging event-driven architectures and Domain Driven Design to deliver robust, cloud-first solutions.

Essential Experience

We're looking for candidates with:

  • Deep knowledge of modern architecture patterns and an understanding of when and how to apply them.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft development technologies, particularly .NET and C#.
  • Proven experience designing and developing internal and external APIs.
  • Broad experience with modern architecture approaches including DDD, Microservices, Event-Driven Messaging and CQRS.
  • Hands-on experience with TDD/BDD, ideally using ReqnRoll and Playwright for UI testing.
  • A strong understanding of Agile practices and delivery within Scrum, Kanban or XP frameworks.
  • Experience enhancing development processes, standards and methodologies.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Sitecore, Umbraco or similar CMS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Azure services such as Functions, Logic Apps and App Services.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps and building CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with NServiceBus and/or Azure Service Bus.
