Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Electrical Installation across Further Education programmes. The post holder will support learners to develop safe working practices, strong technical knowledge, and industry-relevant skills, enabling progression into apprenticeships, employment, or further study.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and effective lessons in Electrical Installation
  • Teach across a range of levels (e.g. Entry Level, Level 2-3, T Levels, Apprenticeships)
  • Deliver both classroom-based theory and practical workshop instruction
  • Embed Maths, English, and digital skills within vocational learning
  • Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of learners with diverse abilities

Assessment and Learner Progress

  • Assess learners' work in line with awarding body and college requirements
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner achievement
  • Monitor learner attendance, progress, and behaviour
  • Support learners with additional needs in partnership with learner support teams

Curriculum and Quality

  • Contribute to curriculum design and development to meet current industry standards
  • Maintain accurate learner records and assessment documentation
  • Prepare learners for practical assessments, exams, and workplace readiness
  • Participate in internal verification, standardisation, and quality improvement activities

Industry and Professional Practice

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical regulations and industry practice
  • Ensure teaching reflects current standards, including the IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • Promote safe working practices and compliance with health & safety legislation
  • Develop and maintain links with employers and industry partners

College Responsibilities

  • Act as a personal tutor where required
  • Participate in enrolment, open days, and promotional activities
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Adhere to safeguarding, equality and diversity, and health & safety policies

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification or above in Electrical Installation or a related discipline
  • Current or recent industry experience as a qualified electrician
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training)
  • English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent)

Experience

  • Significant, recent experience within the electrical installation industry
  • Experience working with apprentices, trainees, or junior staff
  • Experience of working safely and in compliance with electrical regulations

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of electrical installation principles and systems
  • Good working knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)
  • Ability to deliver practical and theory-based sessions effectively
  • Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Assessor and/or Internal Verifier qualifications (TAQA, A1, V1)
  • Experience teaching in an FE college or training environment
  • Current inspection and testing qualifications (e.g. 2391 or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of apprenticeships, T Levels, and awarding bodies (e.g. City & Guilds, EAL)
