Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in Brickwork, enabling learners to develop the practical skills, technical knowledge and professional behaviours required for employment and progression within the construction industry.




Key Responsibilities




Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and effective lessons in Brickwork.

Teach across a range of levels (e.g. Level 1-3, T Levels, Apprenticeships, or adult provision as required).

Deliver practical workshop sessions and theoretical knowledge in line with awarding body requirements.

Demonstrate and supervise safe use of tools, equipment and materials in workshop environments.

Embed English, maths, digital skills, safeguarding and employability skills within teaching and learning.



Assessment and Learner Progress

Assess learner work accurately in accordance with awarding body and college assessment requirements.

Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner progress and achievement.

Track learner progress and maintain accurate records, including attendance, assessments and reviews.

Support learners with additional learning needs and promote inclusive learning practices.



Curriculum and Quality

Contribute to the development, review and delivery of Brickwork curriculum.

Ensure teaching, learning and assessment meets Ofsted, awarding body and internal quality standards.

Participate in internal verification, standardisation and quality assurance activities.

Maintain current vocational and industry knowledge to ensure curriculum relevance.

Pastoral and Professional Responsibilities

Act as a personal tutor where required, supporting learner welfare, attendance and progression.

Promote positive behaviour, equality, diversity and inclusion.

Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff and external stakeholders.

Adhere to all college policies, including safeguarding, health and safety and data protection.

Participate in CPD, staff meetings, performance management and training activities.



Essential Qualifications

Relevant Level 3 qualification or above in Brickwork (or equivalent).

Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS) or willingness to work towards one.

Assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA/A1) or willingness to obtain.



Essential Experience

Substantial, recent industry experience in Brickwork.

Experience working with bricks, blocks, mortars and associated tools and equipment.

Strong understanding of current health and safety practices within construction.



Essential Skills and Attributes

Ability to deliver high-quality practical and theoretical teaching.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate and manage groups of learners with diverse needs.

Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

Commitment to learner achievement and inclusive education.

Competent IT skills, including use of e-learning platforms and digital systems.
