Debt Recovery Officer

Morgan Hunt's Public Sector and Government client based in South East London is looking to recruit a Debt Recovery Officer to provide support throughout a busy period of increased volume.

The role is full-time 2-year Fixed Term Contract and offers hybrid working.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have the ability to:

• Deliver a comprehensive and effective collection and debt recovery service across a diverse portfolio of Council debts, with a particular focus on Adult Social Care accounts.
• Proactively manage a caseload of aged debt, including residential, respite, and non-residential care charges, ensuring timely progression through each stage of the recovery cycle.
• Handle communications from debtors and third parties via telephone and email, demonstrating sensitivity and professionalism when working with vulnerable clients and their representatives, including executors of estates.
• Liaise with relevant Council departments to resolve queries and remove barriers to payment.
• Undertake daily proactive contact with debtors to secure payment, promote Direct Debit uptake
• Agree sustainable repayment arrangements, and pursue settlement from estates where appropriate.
• Escalate cases as necessary, including referrals to support services, external debt collection agencies (and review of returned cases), or recommendation of legal action in line with policy.
• Assess and recommend cases for write-off in accordance with Council procedures.
• Accurately record all recovery actions and case updates on the Council's IT system, Aspien Debt Recovery.
• Ensure all activities comply with Service Level Agreements (SLAs), relevant legislation, regulatory standards, and audit requirements, supporting high-quality and accountable service delivery.
