An exciting opportunity for a Tenancy Relations Officer to join a proactive Housing Options / Homeless Prevention team within a local authority in Mid Sussex.

This is a critical role focused on protecting tenants' rights, tackling unlawful eviction and landlord harassment, and supporting the implementation of upcoming legislative changes, including the Renters Reform landscape.

The Role

You will act as a key specialist within the service, providing expert advice, investigation, and enforcement in relation to tenancy rights within the Public Sector and Government.

Working closely with tenants, landlords, legal teams, and external partners, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with housing legislation and preventing homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate cases of illegal eviction and landlord harassment, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
  • Conduct PACE interviews under caution and gather evidence for enforcement action
  • Prepare and manage case files for prosecution, including witness statements and court attendance
  • Issue Community Protection Notices (CPNs) and formal warnings where appropriate
  • Support the implementation of new tenancy legislation and reforms, advising stakeholders accordingly
  • Provide clear, impartial advice to tenants and landlords on rights, responsibilities, and dispute resolution
  • Work closely with internal teams such as Legal, Environmental Health, and Homelessness Prevention
  • Liaise with external agencies including police and support organisations
  • Deliver training and briefings to colleagues and stakeholders on tenancy law and best practice
  • Maintain accurate case records and produce detailed reports and performance data

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in a Tenancy Relations / Housing Enforcement role within a local authority or similar setting
  • Strong working knowledge of housing legislation, particularly around eviction, harassment, and tenant protections
  • Experience conducting PACE interviews and preparing legal case files
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive cases, including vulnerable tenants
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload
