Pay Rate: £13.00 - £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established Further Education College in Manchester for a skilled and committed Communication Support Worker (BSL Level 6) to join their team from September 2026.
This is a rewarding full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who is fluent in British Sign Language (Level 6 required) and passionate about ensuring Deaf and hearing-impaired learners can fully access education, communication, and college life.
The Role
As a Communication Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting Deaf students and those with hearing impairments, enabling full access to learning through high-quality communication support, BSL interpretation, and classroom assistance.
You will work closely with teaching staff, support teams, and learners to ensure communication barriers are removed and every student can engage confidently and independently.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing BSL interpretation and communication support in lessons and across college activities
- Supporting Deaf and hearing-impaired learners on a 1:1 and group basis
- Facilitating clear communication between students, staff, and peers
- Assisting learners in accessing curriculum content effectively
- Supporting note-taking, clarification, and language development where required
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and full participation in college life
- Working collaboratively with tutors, SEN staff, and support services
- Promoting an inclusive and accessible learning environment at all times
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- British Sign Language (BSL) Level 6 qualification - essential
- Strong fluency in BSL and excellent communication skills
- A caring, patient, and professional approach
- The ability to build positive relationships with learners and staff
- A commitment to inclusion and removing barriers to learning
- Previous experience in an educational setting is desirable but not essential
- An understanding of Deaf awareness and inclusive communication practices is beneficial
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
