Engineering Lecturer - Chichester
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Engineering Lecturer to join our team in Chichester. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and develop the next generation of engineers by delivering high-quality teaching across engineering programmes.
Working with learners from a range of backgrounds, you will deliver engaging classroom, workshop, and practical sessions while supporting students to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours required for further study, apprenticeships, and careers within the engineering industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging engineering lessons across a range of engineering programmes.
- Deliver practical workshop and laboratory sessions, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources that meet curriculum and awarding body requirements.
- Assess learner progress through practical assessments, assignments, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Prepare learners for assessments, industry placements, apprenticeships, and progression into higher education or employment.
- Monitor learner attendance, progress, and achievement, implementing appropriate intervention strategies where necessary.
- Maintain accurate learner records, assessment documentation, and quality assurance evidence.
- Contribute to curriculum development, internal verification, standardisation activities, and continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborate with employers, apprenticeship providers, and industry partners to ensure programmes reflect current engineering practices.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages learner engagement and achievement.
Expected Qualifications
- Experience teaching or training engineering in a further education, higher education, apprenticeship, or industrial setting.
- Strong technical knowledge in one or more engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, production, maintenance, or general engineering.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of experience.
- Experience using engineering workshop equipment and industry-standard software relevant to the curriculum.
- Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusive teaching practices.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative teaching team.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), Higher National Certificate (HNC), or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, Certificate in Education (CertEd), or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET), or willingness to achieve one within an agreed timeframe.
- Relevant engineering industry experience supported by recognised vocational or professional qualifications.
- GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
- Current knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing technologies, health and safety legislation, and industry standards.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain technical expertise and teaching practice.
- A relevant professional registration or membership with an engineering institution is desirable.
