Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA)

Fixed-Term Contract: 2-3 Months (with potential for extension or permanent opportunity)

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must:

• Identify as a member of the LGBT+ community (this is an occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010).

• Have experience supporting survivors of domestic abuse, ideally as an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) or in a similar specialist advocacy role.

• Have experience completing DASH risk assessments, safety planning, and managing high-risk domestic abuse cases.

• Have experience representing and advocating for clients at MARAC (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences).

• Demonstrate a strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and multi-agency working.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to provide specialist, independent support to LGBT+ survivors of domestic abuse. Working with individuals assessed as being at high and medium risk, you will deliver trauma-informed, person-centred advocacy while working collaboratively with statutory and voluntary sector partners.

This is initially a 2-3 month fixed-term position, with the possibility of extension or becoming a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of approximately 25-30 LGBT+ survivors of domestic abuse.

• Carry out comprehensive risk and needs assessments using the DASH risk assessment tool.

• Develop and review personalised safety plans to reduce risk and improve client outcomes.

• Provide ongoing case management, advocacy and emotional support.

• Support the intake and assessment of new referrals alongside the Domestic Abuse Team.

• Represent clients at MARAC meetings and advocate on their behalf with safeguarding teams, housing providers, health services, police, probation, social care and other partner agencies.

• Support clients to access housing, legal, welfare and other support services.

• Maintain accurate, confidential and timely case records using Salesforce CRM and contribute to service monitoring and reporting.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

• Previous experience supporting survivors of domestic abuse in an IDVA or similar advocacy role.

• A strong working knowledge of DASH, MARAC, safeguarding procedures and risk management.

• Experience working within multi-agency environments and building effective professional relationships.

• Excellent advocacy, communication and case management skills.

• An understanding of the specific experiences, barriers and support needs faced by LGBT+ survivors of domestic abuse.

• A commitment to delivering inclusive, trauma-informed, person-centred services.

Desirable

• SafeLives IDVA Accreditation (desirable but not essential).

• Experience using Salesforce or a similar case management system.
