Triage Case Officer

Morgan Hunt are currently working with a Professional Regulatory Body in their search for multiple Triage Case Officers to join their growing Fitness to Practise team. You will manage a varied and often highly sensitive caseload of concerns, making independent regulatory decisions that directly contribute to public protection. You'll assess complex information, apply legal and regulatory frameworks, identify risk and determine whether concerns meet the statutory threshold to progress to investigation.



Working within a specialist triage function, you will independently analyse evidence, pursue lines of enquiry and make balanced, evidence-based decisions that are lawful, proportionate and defensible. The role requires excellent judgement, strong analytical skills and the confidence to make decisions that have significant implications for registrants, employers and members of the public.



You will also act as a key point of contact for a wide range of stakeholders, including employers, partner agencies and members of the public, ensuring complex and often sensitive matters are handled professionally, empathetically and within agreed timescales. Alongside case management, you will work closely with colleagues across investigations, hearings, legal services and registration teams to ensure consistent and high-quality regulatory decision-making.



This is more than a case management role. You'll be encouraged to develop specialist expertise, provide advice and guidance to colleagues, coach less experienced team members and contribute to policy development, operational improvements and service enhancement initiatives across the wider triage function.



The successful candidate will have experience managing complex regulatory, legal, investigative or safeguarding casework, with the ability to work independently within legislative frameworks while making fair, evidence-based decisions. Strong communication skills, resilience and a commitment to continuous improvement will be essential.





Job Title: Triage Case Officer

Location: Hybrid Working - Sheffield (20% office attendance or less)

Salary: £34,085 per annum (rising to £36,520 following successful completion of probation)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-Time





Key Responsibilities

· Manage a varied and complex caseload of Fitness to Practise concerns, making independent threshold decisions on whether cases should progress to investigation.

· Analyse complex evidence, identify key issues and assess regulatory risk using statutory and regulatory frameworks.

· Conduct enquiries with employers, partner organisations and external agencies to obtain and evaluate evidence.

· Draft clear, concise and well-reasoned case summaries, correspondence and regulatory decisions.

· Act as a key point of contact for stakeholders, explaining complex decisions with professionalism, sensitivity and confidence.

· Work collaboratively with colleagues across Triage, Investigations, Hearings, Registration, Case Review and Legal Services.

· Develop specialist knowledge in designated areas of regulatory practice, providing advice, guidance and informal training to colleagues.

· Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues, supporting consistent decision-making and quality standards.

· Contribute to operational improvement initiatives, helping identify opportunities to improve quality, consistency and efficiency.

· Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with organisational policies and statutory requirements.





Candidate Profile

· Experience managing complex casework within regulatory, legal, investigative or safeguarding environments.

· Ability to work independently within legal and regulatory frameworks, making sound, evidence-based decisions.

· Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risk, evaluate evidence and reach well-reasoned conclusions.

· Excellent written communication skills, with experience drafting clear reports, correspondence or formal decisions.

· Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and manage sensitive conversations professionally.

· Ability to develop specialist knowledge and provide advice, guidance and support to colleagues.

· Experience contributing to policy, guidance or process improvements would be advantageous.

· Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory deadlines.

· A resilient, proactive approach and the ability to remain calm when dealing with complex or emotionally challenging situations.
