Pay Rate: £18-£23 per hour
Hours: Full-Time or Part-Time
Contract Type: Term Time Only | Temporary to Permanent | Fixed-Term
The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Learning Support Specialist to support learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical needs.
This role requires a compassionate and skilled professional who can provide both educational and personal support, enabling learners to access their studies safely and effectively. Working as part of a wider support network, you will collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to deliver high-quality learner-centred support.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Educational Support
- Provide one-to-one support tailored to individual learner needs.
- Assist learners within classroom, practical, and enrichment settings.
- Support learners to engage with lessons and achieve their learning objectives.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and social development.
Personal Care
- Support learners with personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, changing, and feeding.
- Promote dignity, respect, and wellbeing at all times.
- Follow individual care plans and support strategies.
Medical Support
- Administer medication in accordance with healthcare plans and organisational procedures.
- Support learners who require PEG feeding.
- Assist learners with complex medical needs while maintaining accurate records.
- Work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate support is provided.
Moving and Handling
- Support learners with mobility and positioning requirements.
- Safely operate specialist equipment including hoists, slings, wheelchairs, and standing aids.
- Follow moving and handling procedures in line with training and risk assessments.
Safeguarding and Compliance
- Maintain accurate records relating to learner support, medication, and care.
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, infection control, and risk management procedures.
- Report concerns promptly and appropriately.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Essential Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience in:
- Supporting children, young people, or adults with SEND.
- Delivering personal care.
- Administering medication.
- Supporting individuals with complex medical needs.
- PEG feeding.
- Manual handling and moving & handling procedures.
- Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Strong communication skills and a learner-focused approach are essential.
Desirable Qualifications and Training
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
- Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care.
- Moving and Handling certification.
- Medication Administration training.
- PEG Feeding training.
- First Aid certification.
- Safeguarding training.

Important Information
Due to the nature of the learners supported within this role, applicants must have previous experience and training relating to personal care, medication administration, PEG feeding, and manual handling.
The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
