About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Sociology Lecturer to join our academic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced lecturer or an ambitious academic to contribute to high-quality teaching, student development, and the continued growth of our sociology provision.
You will deliver engaging lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials across a range of sociological topics, supporting students to develop critical thinking, research, analytical, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and high-quality sociology teaching.
- Teach across areas such as social inequality, research methods, culture and identity, crime and deviance, social policy, families, education, and contemporary social issues.
- Develop and update teaching materials in line with curriculum requirements.
- Design, mark, and moderate assessments, providing constructive feedback to students.
- Provide academic support, guidance, and pastoral signposting where appropriate.
- Contribute to curriculum development and programme review.
- Stay informed about current sociological research, debates, and developments.
- Support students from diverse backgrounds to achieve their academic potential.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality assurance activities, and wider institutional initiatives.
- Where appropriate, contribute to research, scholarly activity, conferences, and community or industry engagement.
About You
You will have:
- A degree in Sociology or a closely related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in Sociology or a related subject is desirable.
- Experience teaching sociology in higher or further education.
- Strong knowledge of sociological theory, research methods, and contemporary social issues.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
- Experience developing teaching and assessment materials.
- Strong organisational skills and a commitment to student success.
A recognised teaching qualification and/or professional recognition such as Fellowship of Advance HE would be advantageous.
