About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Geography Lecturer to join our academic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or an ambitious academic to contribute to high-quality teaching, student development, and the continued growth of our geography programmes.
You will deliver engaging lectures, seminars, workshops, and field-based learning activities across a range of geographical topics. You will support students in developing strong analytical, research, practical, and critical-thinking skills while encouraging them to understand the complex relationships between people, places, environments, and societies.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive geography teaching.
- Teach across areas such as physical geography, human geography, environmental change, sustainability, development, urban geography, and geographical research methods.
- Develop engaging teaching resources, activities, and learning materials.
- Organise and participate in fieldwork and practical learning where appropriate.
- Design, mark, and moderate assessments in line with institutional requirements.
- Provide constructive feedback and academic guidance to students.
- Support students in developing research, data analysis, GIS, and fieldwork skills.
- Contribute to curriculum development, programme review, and quality assurance.
- Maintain current knowledge of geographical research, environmental issues, and contemporary global developments.
- Participate in departmental meetings and wider academic activities.
- Where appropriate, contribute to research, scholarly activity, conferences, and external engagement.
About You
You will have:
- A degree in Geography or a closely related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in Geography or a related subject is desirable.
- Experience teaching geography within further or higher education.
- Strong subject knowledge across relevant areas of geography.
- Experience with geographical research methods, data analysis, and fieldwork.
- Knowledge of GIS and relevant digital geographical technologies would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organisational skills and a commitment to student success and academic excellence.
A recognised teaching qualification and/or professional recognition such as Fellowship of Advance HE would be advantageous.
