
Graduate/Assistant Building Surveyor (Building Consultancy)

We are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate / Assistant Building Surveyor to join a growing building surveying consultancy in Edinburgh.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career surveyor looking to develop their experience within an established and supportive consultancy environment. You will work alongside experienced building surveyors on a varied portfolio of commercial and residential projects, gaining hands-on experience across the full range of building surveying services.

Working as part of the Edinburgh team, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with building surveys, condition surveys and defect investigations
- Supporting the preparation of Schedules of Condition, Schedules of Dilapidations and other technical reports
- Assisting with planned and reactive maintenance advice
- Supporting contract administration and project monitoring on refurbishment and repair projects
- Carrying out site inspections and recording building defects and condition
- Assisting with the preparation of specifications, schedules and tender documentation
- Liaising with clients, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders
- Undertaking research and providing technical input into reports and recommendations
- Supporting senior surveyors with a variety of professional instructions
- Developing your knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards and best practice
We are looking for someone who is keen to build a long-term career in building surveying and has a genuine interest in the built environment.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Building Surveying, Building/Construction, Property or a related subject
- Or be working towards / have recently completed an appropriate degree
- An interest in working towards RICS chartership
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- A willingness to learn and take responsibility
- Confidence in dealing with clients and colleagues
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- A full UK driving licence would be advantageous
Previous surveying experience is beneficial but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative and a willingness to develop.
