Outreach Worker

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm

Contract: Temporary to permanent opportunity

Key Focus

The role is focused on maximising opportunities for homeless young people and care leavers to achieve their goals and aspirations by providing the right information, advice, guidance and support.




You will work as part of a team delivering high-quality, young-person-centred and outcome-focused triage services, ensuring support is responsive to individual needs and promotes positive, sustainable outcomes.

This is a very hands-on, field-based Outreach Worker position. The role involves spending a significant amount of time out in the community, carrying out outreach and engaging with people in and around Birmingham.

Main Purpose of the Role

As an Outreach Navigation Worker (RSI), your main purpose is to:

• Participate in street outreach to engage with young people who may be rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping.
• Work as part of an Outreach Navigation Service to positively impact rough sleeping numbers and the wider support pathway.
• Support young people to remain in their homes or secure suitable alternative accommodation to prevent rough sleeping.
• Work in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure young people's needs are met.
• Support young people who may have experienced complex trauma and have multiple support needs, including poor mental health, offending and substance misuse.
• Help young people develop positive social networks and the skills needed to maintain their accommodation and independence.
• Support young people in their recovery away from the streets, helping them build resilience and develop their capabilities.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• Experienced in working with young people - essential.
• Resilient and able to work effectively with young people experiencing complex needs and challenging circumstances.
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations.
• Confident working independently and using your own initiative.
• Comfortable working outdoors and undertaking a role that involves a significant amount of walking and physical activity as part of street outreach.
• Compassionate, approachable and able to build positive relationships with young people.
• Able to work collaboratively with partner agencies and other professionals.
• Committed to supporting young people to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes.

Driving: Full driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable but not essential.




This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
