About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Employment Specialist (Individual Placement and Support - IPS) to join a community-based drug and alcohol treatment service in Hull (HU3) on an initial 3-month contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support individuals accessing structured substance misuse treatment to overcome barriers to employment, build confidence and secure sustainable, paid work that aligns with their skills, interests and aspirations.

Working closely with clinical teams, local employers and external organisations, you will deliver person-centred employment support, helping individuals take positive steps towards recovery, independence and long-term career development.

Pay Rates

Pay is dependent on experience and paid via umbrella:

  • Less than 12 months' experience: £16-£18 per hour
  • 1-3 years' experience: £18-£20 per hour
  • 3+ years' experience: Up to £22 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of individuals accessing drug and alcohol treatment who are motivated to enter or return to employment.
  • Provide tailored employment support, including CV writing, job searching, completing applications and interview preparation.
  • Work with clients to identify their skills, interests, aspirations and employment goals, developing individual vocational profiles and action plans.
  • Build strong relationships with local employers to identify suitable vacancies and explore opportunities beyond advertised roles.
  • Support clients to overcome barriers to employment, including workplace challenges, disclosure considerations and benefit-related concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to encourage referrals and promote employment as a positive part of the recovery journey.
  • Provide ongoing in-work support to help individuals sustain employment, including regular check-ins with clients and employers.
  • Develop partnerships with local employers, training providers and other external agencies to expand employment opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate case records, monitor client progress and contribute to service reporting and evaluation.
  • Promote equality, challenge discrimination and help create inclusive employment opportunities for people in recovery.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience supporting individuals with employment, training or vocational goals.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by people experiencing substance misuse, mental health difficulties or other barriers to employment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage positively with clients, employers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience providing practical employment support, including CV development, job applications and interview preparation.
  • The ability to build relationships with employers and identify suitable job opportunities.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills, including maintaining accurate case records.
  • A person-centred, non-judgemental approach, with a genuine commitment to helping individuals achieve their goals.

Experience delivering the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model would be beneficial. Training in IPS can be provided.
