Contract: Temporary to Permanent - Full-time 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £16.50 an hour
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Rough Sleepers Outreach Navigator to join a reputable Outreach Navigation Service based in the heart of Birmingham. Working directly with young people who are rough sleeping or at risk of homelessness, this role is all about making a positive impact on reducing rough sleeping, supporting young people with complex needs, and helping them sustain long-term independence.
Your aim is to provide direct support with accommodation, tenancy management, benefits, budgeting, and everyday life skills. You'll also play a vital role in connecting young people with specialist services, advocating for their rights, and ensuring they have the tools and resilience to move away from homelessness for good.
Key Responsibilities of a Rough Sleepers Outreach Navigator
- Carry out detailed assessments of housing and support needs for young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
- Provide practical support, including help with furniture, benefits advice, budgeting, and neighbour/landlord relations.
- Develop tailored support plans and interventions to help young people sustain tenancies and build independence.
- Safeguard young people and vulnerable adults by escalating concerns appropriately.
- Undertake city-wide street outreach, home visits, and accompany young people to appointments when required.
- Advocate for young people on housing rights, benefits, and access to specialist services.
- Keep accurate case notes and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
What We're Looking For
- Experience of working with vulnerable young people, particularly those with complex needs (e.g. poor mental health, offending, substance misuse, or trauma).
- Strong communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to build trust and empower others.
- Knowledge of homelessness pathways, housing options, and safeguarding processes.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings for outreach and street counts.
- A team player who can also work independently and manage a busy caseload.
