Job Opportunity: Support Worker (Temporary, Part-Time)
Hours: 22.5 hours per week
Shifts: Rota basis across Monday to Sunday
- Early: 8AM - 4PM
- Mid: 9AM - 5PM
- Late: 12PM - 8PM
- Weekends: 2 weekends out of every 4
- Contract Length: Temporary, approximately 2-3 months
- Pay: £14.17 per hour + £1.71 holiday pay = £15.88 per hour
Role Overview
As a Support Worker, you will be responsible for delivering person-centred support to young people experiencing homelessness. The role involves key working, risk assessment, advocacy, and supporting clients in their journey towards independent living.
Please note: This position involves lone working.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold a caseload of six key clients and conduct regular keywork sessions to develop and review individual support plans
- Carry out comprehensive risk and needs assessments
- Assess new referrals against project criteria, and provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants
- Support clients in preparing for independent living, ensuring appropriate support networks and resources are in place
- Build trusting, professional relationships with clients while maintaining clear boundaries
- Encourage and support participation in education, training, employment, and volunteering
- Liaise and advocate with external agencies including local authorities, benefits agencies, and other statutory and voluntary bodies
- Address challenging behaviour in a sensitive and professional manner; document incidents appropriately
- Maintain a safe and secure environment, ensuring high standards of health and safety
- Manage collection of service charges and petty cash in line with policy
Person Specification
Essential Experience
- Supporting young people experiencing homelessness
- Working within a residential housing project
- Managing a caseload, conducting support planning, and completing risk and needs assessments
- Involving service users in shaping the support they receive
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of the causes and impacts of youth homelessness
- Awareness of young people's support needs and the services/resources available
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and anti-discriminatory practices
- Clear understanding of Safeguarding protocols and professional boundaries
- Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office and client databases
