
Data Protection Consultant
Morgan Hunt are currently working with a National Charity in their search for a temporary Data Protection Consultant to support their governance and compliance function. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced data protection professional to play a key operational role in ensuring compliance and best practice across a high-profile, purpose-driven organisation.
In this interim position, you will provide day-to-day data protection support, acting as a trusted adviser across the charity. Reporting to the Company Secretary, you will manage and respond to data protection queries, review and advise on contracts, and lead on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects and partnerships. You'll also work closely with fundraising and marketing teams to ensure privacy and compliance in supporter engagement, new platform onboarding and events, applying a pragmatic, risk-based approach to managing data across the organisation.
The successful candidate will be a data protection specialist with strong technical knowledge of data privacy, compliance and governance. You'll have experience supporting fundraising and marketing activities within the charity or non-profit sector, alongside a strong understanding of contract review and risk assessment. Above all, you'll bring a personable, collaborative and adaptable approach, able to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels and translate legal and compliance requirements into clear, practical advice.

Location: Flexible (Ideally 2 days per week in London Office)
Day Rate: £350.00 - £500.00 (Umbrella)
Contract Type: Temporary (3-6 months)
Hours: Full-time (part-time considered)

Key Responsibilities
· Provide day-to-day operational data protection support and advice across the organisation.
· Manage and respond to data protection queries, offering clear, pragmatic guidance to staff and project leads.
· Conduct and review Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects, systems and contracts.
· Identify risks, advise on mitigation and ensure legality and compliance with data protection legislation.
· Review and advise on contract clauses relating to data protection and privacy.
· Support fundraising and marketing teams on compliance with data protection and privacy requirements.
· Advise on lawful basis for data processing, privacy notices and the appropriate use of AI and new technologies.
· Support onboarding of new fundraising providers and platforms, ensuring compliance from the outset.
· Build strong working relationships across departments to embed best practice and awareness.
Candidate Profile
· Experienced data protection specialist with strong operational knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and PECR.
· Background in the charity, fundraising or marketing sectors, with understanding of data flows and privacy in supporter engagement.
· Experience conducting DPIAs and reviewing data-related contracts.
· Pragmatic, collaborative and personable approach - able to engage and advise non-specialists effectively.
· Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
· Confident balancing risk and compliance in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
· Experience working within large charities or as a privacy consultant for non-profit clients is highly desirable.
