Learning Support Mentor

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £21,355 per annum (actual salary) | £24,577 FTE
Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only (38 weeks per year)
Hours: 37 hours per week

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Mentor to join our department. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to support students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, helping them develop independence, access learning opportunities, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with learning difficulties and disabilities to fully access their curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Work collaboratively with lecturers, assessors, and support teams across a variety of learning environments.
  • Assist students with note-taking, reading materials, use of assistive technologies, and study skills.
  • Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and personal development.
  • Support students during classroom activities, educational visits, breaks, and off-site learning opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of support provided and student progress.
  • Contribute to reviews, support planning, and team meetings.
  • Assist with therapy programmes where appropriate under professional guidance.
  • Champion inclusion and student wellbeing across the college community.

Essential Requirements

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or equivalent).
  • Recent experience supporting individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Experience working with young people or adults within education, healthcare, social care, or a similar setting.
  • Ability to take notes and provide learning support in a classroom environment.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and work across different curriculum areas as required.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 2 Learning Support qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience of sighted guiding.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and inclusive learning practices.
