Financial Accountant will be joining the Finance team within a large and complex charity organisation until the end of November with hybrid flexibility (2 days in the office).

The role

Financial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, and supporting the organisation through month-end and year-end processes. Financial Accountant requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and support year-end audit activities.
  • Act as the main contact for external auditors, coordinating audit requirements and deliverables.
  • Prepare VAT and Corporation Tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Manage month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and post depreciation journals.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure ledger accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify and implement improvements to finance processes, systems, and reporting.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organisation, providing financial support for projects and business initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

* Fully or part qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/ACA or equivalent).

* Previous experience working in a financial accounting role within a large organisation or charity; including he use and development of systems and procedures.

* Strong experience of bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, journal preparation and posting, VAT returns, and balance sheet reconciliations.

* Experience managing or supervising finance staff.

* Strong Excel and financial systems skills.

*High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
