We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our specialist land management college in Middlesbrough. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with a range of additional learning needs as they develop practical skills and qualifications in agriculture.
Working alongside teaching staff and the wider learner support team, you will help students with moderate to complex additional needs to access learning, build confidence and achieve their individual goals in both classroom and practical agricultural environments.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide individual and small-group support to students studying agricultural courses. You will adapt your approach to meet each learner's needs, encouraging independence while ensuring they can participate safely and successfully in all aspects of college life.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and in-class learning support for students with additional needs.
- Supporting learners during practical agricultural sessions, including work in outdoor and farm-based environments.
- Encouraging independence, confidence and personal development.
- Assisting with implementing learning strategies and support plans.
- Promoting student wellbeing, engagement and positive behaviour.
- Working collaboratively with lecturers, therapists, parents/carers and other professionals to ensure students receive the support they need.
- Maintaining accurate records of learner progress and support provided.
- Following safeguarding, health and safety and equality policies at all times.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting young people with additional learning needs.
- Patient, caring and adaptable in their approach.
- Confident building positive relationships with students, colleagues and families.
- Able to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
- Comfortable working in both classroom and practical outdoor agricultural settings.
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional learning needs, including moderate to complex needs.
- Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
- The ability to work full time from August 2026 until December 2026.
Desirable
- Experience within further education or specialist education settings.
- Knowledge of SEND, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and associated needs.
- An interest in agriculture, land management or outdoor learning.
- Relevant qualifications in education, care or learning support.
