π About SELPS
The South East London Prevention Service (SELPS) is a specialised Thames Reach initiative operating across South East London.
The service works to stop homelessness before it starts by identifying people who are at imminent risk of losing their homes, providing housing and tenancy advice, and offering floating support to help vulnerable individuals maintain secure accommodation.
As part of a new 4-month pilot scheme, SELPS is developing an approach to support people who have a housing need but do not have pronounced support needs. The aim is to prevent people from unnecessarily entering rough sleeping services by helping them access appropriate housing solutions at an earlier stage.
π€ About the role
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and compassionate Prevention Service Worker to join the pilot.
You will work directly with people who may be at risk of homelessness or rough sleeping, helping them identify realistic housing options and supporting them to secure and maintain appropriate accommodation.
This is a practical, solutions-focused role for someone with a strong understanding of housing and homelessness.

Experience in homelessness prevention, housing advice, working with people at risk of rough sleeping, or liaising with landlords and housing providers would also be valuable.
π οΈ Key responsibilities
- π Assess people's housing circumstances and identify appropriate solutions.
- π Provide practical housing, tenancy and homelessness prevention advice.
- π€ Work with people to prevent homelessness and sustain accommodation.
- π« Identify individuals who can be appropriately diverted from rough sleeping services.
- π Explore available housing options and support people to access them.
- π Liaise with landlords, councils, housing providers and partner organisations.
- π Make appropriate referrals and provide effective handovers where additional support is required.
- β οΈ Recognise when someone has more significant support needs and ensure they are referred to the appropriate service.
- π Maintain accurate case records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the pilot.
- π‘ Work creatively and proactively to find solutions to housing problems.
π About you
We're looking for someone who is:

Experienced in tenancy sustainment, outreach or supported housing

Knowledgeable about housing and homelessness pathways

Confident assessing housing situations and identifying practical solutions

Experienced in working with landlords, housing providers or statutory services

A strong communicator with excellent advocacy and problem-solving skills

Able to work independently and manage a varied workload

Non-judgemental, resilient and person-centred

Passionate about preventing homelessness and helping people maintain secure accommodation
