Summary
Morgan Hunt are working with a reputable housing provider, who are seeking a highly skilled Cost Consultant to join their Building Safety team and provide commercial leadership across a major fire remediation programme. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to residents' lives by ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget.
You'll be reporting into the Programme Manager and you'll be the commercial lead across a portfolio of critical building safety projects. From developing cost plans at design stage through to negotiating final accounts, you'll ensure robust financial oversight and contract compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Collating and integrating cost data across multiple projects.
- Preparing cost plans, detailed estimates, valuations, and monthly cost reports.
- Reviewing contractor invoices and accounts for accuracy and conformity with contracts.
- Measuring works, maintaining accurate progress records, and preparing control sheets.
- Managing procurement activities, including tender analysis, pre-qualification, and contract preparation.
- Advising on value engineering, life cycle costing, and risk management strategies.
- Providing commercial and contractual risk advice, including early warnings and compensation events.
- Supporting dispute resolution, claims assessments, and contractor performance reviews.
- Maintaining detailed commercial files, records, and reporting systems.
About you
- Strong quantity surveying/commercial management experience, ideally within building safety, construction, or housing.
- Ability to interpret complex data, manage risk, and ensure value-for-money outcomes on high-value projects.
- Proven cost management/quantity surveying background.
- Hands-on experience with material take-offs, drawings, and software such as AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes and contract management.
- Knowledge of measurement methods (e.g. POMI, RICS NRM).
- Familiarity with contract conditions and their impact on cost planning and budgeting.
- Value engineering, life cycle costing, and claims assessment knowledge.
- Understanding of CDM regulations and building/fire safety legislation.
- Strong IT skills, including Excel, MS Project, and SharePoint.
- Degree (or equivalent) in building, quantity surveying, or civil engineering.
- Professional membership (MRICS or similar) desirable.
