Job Title: Specialist Hostel Support Officer
Location: Stratford / Maryland, East London
Salary: £38,000 per annum
Contract: 6 Month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) - prior to ARHAG merge with Hyde Housing
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
Management: No staff management responsibilities
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Specialist Hostel Support Officer to support the day-to-day running of a hostel service based in Stratford/Maryland. The service includes 11 units within the Keogh Road Hostel and 18 RSI one-bedroom units across Newham and Tower Hamlets.
This role will involve supporting residents from refugee and immigration backgrounds, ensuring they receive the appropriate support to stabilise their housing situation and move towards independence.
The successful candidate will provide key working support, housing management, and tenancy sustainment, assisting residents with benefit access, signposting to services, and supporting them through their move-on journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day running of the hostel and supporting residents across the service
- Providing key working support, including support planning and move-on pathways
- Supporting residents with benefit access and welfare entitlements, liaising with relevant government departments where necessary
- Managing the nomination and lettings process, including interviews, accompanied viewings, and tenancy sign-ups
- Dealing with breaches of resident agreements and taking appropriate action where required
- Ensuring the safety and security of the building and its residents
- Conducting fire drills and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures
- Monitoring rent accounts, service charges and minimising arrears
- Maintaining accurate case files, records and documentation in line with organisational policies
- Managing petty cash and financial records in accordance with project budgets
- Supporting tenant engagement activities, meetings and consultations
- Coordinating repairs and maintenance, arranging contractor access and monitoring works
- Ensuring hostel equipment and facilities remain safe and operational
Requirements
- Experience working in hostel, housing support, or homelessness services
- Experience supporting individuals from refugee, immigration or complex needs backgrounds
- Knowledge of housing benefit and welfare systems
- Experience managing tenancies, lettings processes and resident agreements
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, housing management and health & safety compliance
- Excellent communication and case management skills
