Hours 35 hours per week- Hybrid- twice a week in the office
Financial Accountant required to joining the Finance team within a large and complex charity to support with the year end process. Our client requires a strong technical accountant, with extensive year end expereince, ideally with experience of SORP/ Charity accounting. Strong experience of working with & supporting year end audit and experience of year end - as well as a track record of process/ reporting improvement - trial balance to production of financial statements. Strong excel skills - intermediate level, VB look ups
The role
Financial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls, and supporting the organisation through month-end and year-end processes. Financial Accountant requires strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and support year-end audit activities.
- Act as the main contact for external auditors, coordinating audit requirements and deliverables.
- Prepare VAT and Corporation Tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Manage month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and bank reconciliations.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and post depreciation journals.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Maintain strong financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure ledger accuracy and compliance.
- Identify and implement improvements to finance processes, systems, and reporting.
- Partner with stakeholders across the organisation, providing financial support for projects and business initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Qualified by experience, part or fully qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/ACA or equivalent).
- Previous experience working in a financial accounting role within a large organisation or charity; including he use and development of systems and procedures.
- Strong experience of bank reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, journal preparation and posting, VAT returns, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience managing or supervising finance staff.
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
