Financial Data Modeller required for our client a leading UK regulator. As Financial Data Modeller you will be employed on temp contract. Financial Data Modeller will develop and improve the organisation's financial models used to calculate fees and recover costs.



Working closely with the finance team, you will replace manual Excel spreadsheets with automated models using Advanced Excel, Power Query and Power BI. Financial Data Modeller will make sure financial data is accurate, easy to maintain, compliant with government guidance, and supports clear financial reporting and budgeting.



Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and automate financial models used for fee-setting and cost recovery.
  • Replace complex, manual Excel spreadsheets with efficient, automated models using Advanced Excel, Power Query and Power BI.
  • Design robust data models with built-in validation, error checking and audit trails to improve accuracy and reduce manual processes.
  • Build automated assumptions tables and control panels to support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
  • Ensure financial models comply with government guidance and support accurate cost recovery and financial reporting.
  • Develop interactive Power BI dashboards and reporting tools to provide clear financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Build scenario planning models to assess the impact of changes such as inflation, activity levels and efficiency savings.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and user guides for the new financial models.
  • Deliver training and provide handover support to ensure finance teams can confidently use and maintain the models.



Essential and Skills responsibilities

  • Proven experience building and automating financial models using Advanced Excel, Power Query and Power BI.
  • Strong knowledge of fee-setting, cost recovery and financial modelling within a regulated or public sector environment.
  • Experience replacing manual spreadsheet processes with automated, audit-ready financial models.
  • A solid understanding of budgeting, cost allocation and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience creating Power BI dashboards and financial reporting solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Experience producing technical documentation and delivering training to finance teams.



Desirable


  • Experience working within the public sector, regulatory bodies or Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP or integrating financial models with finance systems.
  • A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or relevant financial modelling or data analytics certification.
